DEPARTURES by workers from many companies are mostly characterised by lawsuits, threats, and demands of unmet package settlements or a lot scarier actions.

Such is not the case at CureChem, a local chemicals manufacturer and distributor which took time to reunite with its former employees at a local hotel last week.

CureChem management found it necessary to create time and reconnect with its former employees, as a way to acknowledge and appreciate their contribution to the growth of CureChem, a rare occurrence given the bitter ending that characterises many separations.

It has been a tough year for so many reasons hence days out and meeting up with friends has been a daunting task in these grim and turbulent times.

At an occasion held amidst splendour, CureChem chief executive officer, Anup Chand told the company’s alumni that he was delighted to host some of the company’s former employees and intended to learn from experiences they went through during their days at the company to better its operations going forward.

Mr Chand highlighted that the contribution made by the alumni was really important given that the company had now outgrown its former self to have a regional presence that now covers a significant part of the SADC region with prospects to go beyond into East and Central Africa.

“It was always in mind that everybody who worked for CureChem some time before has contributed to the growth of CureChem and we really owe it to them.

“There is a reason why people have left, so I would want to hear it from them how best we can improve, because I know we wronged them in some way, feedback is most valuable for us so that we can improve, there are quite a number of people who came joined and left so we would like to hear from them where we went wrong,” said Mr Chand.

Despite the workers having left the company for various reasons, most of the CureChem past employees acknowledged CEO Chand’s resourcefulness indicating that his astuteness was a critical factor that shaped their work ethic in the formative years of their professional lives.

At an event characterised by pomp and fanfare, Mr Chand said he was “humbled by the feedback” from his former employees and had not realised that CureChem’s former employees would have kind words for him given his uncompromising attitude when it comes to day to day running of the business.

“Not in my wildest dreams did I think they would respect me so much, perhaps we impacted their lives in a positive way.

“I am really excited that I have been able to get them together again, from them we learn a lot, and going forward I am sure we will be a much better company. I really am grateful to everybody who came and worked for CureChem, everybody has left some kind of impression and I have learned a lot from them.”

Furthermore, Mr Chand implored budding entrepreneurs to pursue paths they are passionate about and most importantly be patient if they are to realise big returns in the long run.

“Upcoming entrepreneurs should be patient and passionate about what they do, I think that is what has brought CureChem to what it is today.”
