George Shaya to grace Mbare tourney George Shaya

ZIMBABWE soccer legend and record five-time winner of the Soccer Star of the Year award, George “Mastermind” Shaya, will be the guest of honour at the Mbare National Soccer League (MNSL) Chairman’s Cup final at Kingstons Ground in Mbare tomorrow.

The MNSL is a social league that is made up of teams that include in their line-ups, a mixture of retired Mbare-born and bred legends and upcoming youngsters. The MNSL Chairman’s Cup is the season’s finale following a nine-month tenure that saw Vito Stars clinch the league’s title for the second successive season a fortnight ago.

And the four teams that have made it into the knock-out Chairman’s Cup semi-final stage are favourites Vito Stars, Flying Eagles, Buccaneers and Two Lines. The semi-finals will take place in the morning, starting at 11am where Flying Eagles will clash with Buccaneers in the first macth and Vito Stars will meet Two Lines in the second match. There will also be a youth Challenge match featuring Inter-Hararre Under-16 and GYTSA Under-16 before the main match at 3pm.

Apart from Shaya, some of the legends on parade on the day will include Edward “Duduza” Sadomba, Stewart “Shutto” Murisa, Kelvin “Kedza” Mushangazhike, Innocent “Mbazo” Musapenda, Boniface “Keegan” Makuruzo, Boniface “Achimwene” Kabwe, Leon “Tingo” Linyama and Silas “Majuta” Chihota.

MNSL chairman, Partson Nousenga, also revealed that apart from Shaya, they were also expecting more legends like David ”Broom Boy” George, Stanford “Stix” M’tizwa, David “Yogi” Mandigora, Peter “Skipper” Manyara, Dennis “Danger” Hlatywayo and Sam “Sunduza” Mukondomi to grace the occasion.

Hlatywayo is the younger brother of one of Dynamos’ founder members, the late former Herald Sports Editor, Allan Hlatywayo, whose son Allan Panganayi (Junior) is also heavily involved in running social football in Mbare. Meanwhile, former Zimbabwe youth internationals Kelvin Mushangazhike and Shingi Kawondera are now partners in a football venture which will see them scouting for talented players in this country and recommending them to European clubs.
