THE senior netball team get their preparations for the Diamond Challenge in Polokwane, South Africa, underway early next month when they regroup in Harare.

The tournament will run from November 26 to December 2 and Zimbabwe are taking advantage of the event to kick-start their build-up for the 2019 World Cup in Liverpool, England, after booking their place at the qualifiers held in Zambia in August. Zimbabwe were drawn against giants Australia, Northern Ireland and Sri-Lanka in Group A at the global netball showpiece next year.

Other countries expected to take part in South Africa are Botswana and Namibia. Zimbabwe Netball Association president Leticia Chipandu said their first assignment since their qualification is the Diamond Challenge and it’s a starting point as they look ahead for the World Cup. “It’s one of the tournaments we are going to participate in as part of the World Cup preparations. We have been at the Diamond Challenge several times and we have always brought a silver or bronze medal back home. So I am expecting us to perform better this time around because we have had more exposure.
