Gavin Hunts with SuperSport again Gavin Hunt

JOHANNESBURG. — South African DStv Premiership football club SuperSport United welcomed back an old friend yesterday with confirmation of Gavin Hunt’s appointment as the new coach.

Hunt is one of the most experienced coaches in the South African Premier Soccer League (PSL) and was at the helm of SuperSport United when they won three consecutive PSL championships from 2007/08 to 2009/10, and a Nedbank Cup trophy. He was also twice named South Africa’s Coach of the Year while at Matsatsantsa.

He later left the club, in 2013, for Bidvest Wits and won the league title and MTN 8 trophy in the 2016/17 season as well as the Telkom Knock-Out trophy in the 2017/18 season.

Highly regarded across South Africa, the former right-back has a sharp eye for talent and has a knack for bringing the best out of his players.

“Bringing Gavin back is like welcoming a family member home,” said SuperSport United chief executive Stan Matthews.

“He has a great history with our club and his coaching record speaks for itself. We have some fantastic young talent that will benefit from Gavin’s vast experience and coaching ability, and we look forward to him blending our youth with the experienced players we already have and new players who will be joining us in the weeks ahead. His technical team includes Andre Arendse, Thabo September, Roscoe Krieling and Grant Johnson.” ”I am really excited and looking forward to the challenge ahead, especially to work with the younger players at the club and build the team to ensure the club is successful and competitive In the PSL.
