Eight people from Chitungwiza and Beatrice recently appeared before a Chitungwiza court for allegedly taking a corpse to a beerhall and theft. Tendai Pise (24), Patience Mafunganzira (25), Ishmael Mandipanga (22), Stanley Charura (27), Brendon Simon (21), Rumbidzai Manyika (21), Stewart Jameson (23) and Lovemore Chabhara (27) appeared before Chitungwiza magistrate Mr Francis Mapfumo.

They pleaded not guilty and were remanded in custody to Friday.
It is alleged that the gang dishonoured the body of the late Tinashe Pise by taking it to a bottle store without the relatives’ consent.

Prosecutor Mr Tatenda Mukatera alleged that on February 28 last month, at about 7.30pm, the eight acted in common purpose and proceeded to Tawanda Business Centre with a coffin bearing the body of the late Pise. They then entered into Bwanya Bottle Store and placed it on top of the snooker table.

On the second charge, the eight allegedly assaulted Primrose Kweshilanji, a bartender at Bwanya Bottle Store.
It is alleged that on the night the gang brought the corpse to the bar, they demanded free beer.
