Trek Zimbabwe says it is prepared to provide diesel to farmers for the forthcoming summer cropping season under the CBZ Agro-Yield scheme, with 11 service stations in place to ensure seamless distribution.

Trek Zimbabwe public relations manager Mrs Sharon Mtawarira, told The Herald yesterday that they were ready to distribute diesel for tractors and combine harvesters.

“As we countdown to the summer cropping season, as Trek we are ready to supply farmers with diesel so that the country is food secure,” she said. 

“We have partnered with CBZ as it distributes diesel throughout the country on behalf of the (CBZ Agro-Yield) programme to farmers. Diesel provided to farmers is mainly used for tractors and combine harvesters. 

“Trek has got 11 service stations or outlets where farmers can access their diesel, and these include Trek Tynwald, Trek Windsock Chinhoyi, Trek Msasa depot, Trek Mutare, Trek Kadoma, Trek Gweru, Trek Mpopoma, Trek Glendale, Petrotrade Karoi, Petrotrade Mudhindo and Petrotrade Rusape. We also do bulk deliveries farmers.”

Mrs Mtawarira said in the previous summer cropping season, farmers contracted were around 15 000 for both maize and soya beans.

For winter wheat, 1 300 farmers were contracted and they all got diesel support from Trek.

The CBZ Agro-Yield is a financing initiative by the bank designed to curb the rising import bill with regards to agricultural produce.

The initiative is a partnership between CBZ and Government to sponsor soya beans and maize farming.

It started in the 2019/2020 season.

The initiative is housed under a new division branded CBZ-Agro-Yield.

It continued in the 2020/2021 season and Zimbabwe is expecting a bumper yield of up to 2,7 million tonnes, the highest in 20 years, after inputs were delivered on time.

Zimbabwe also received normal to above rains, resulting in a good yield.

As of August 2, farmers had delivered 629 007 tonnes of maize, 11 381 tonnes of soya bean and 64 798 tonnes of traditional grains to the GMB.

Meanwhile, Trek is also urging fuel consumers to get the Trek Card and get a special discount when they use the cards to fuel up.
