A former Sino-Zimbabwe Cement Company employee, who was left crippled after breaking his backbone at work, has spent two consecutive nights at the company’s premises in Gweru, demanding close to $40 000 in compensation .

Mr Sydney Kachipare (49) of Ascot Extension high-density suburb has stayed put at the Sino-Zimbabwe premises, demanding compensation, arguing that he was now unemployable due to his condition.

He claims that he has been at the company’s Gweru offices for the past two days as he desperately pushes for compensation.

“I was injured in 2003 when I was hit by a door of a container while working. I then sought treatment at the company’s clinic where I was given stop-pains for more than a year. I then went to see a doctor after the pain persisted and was told that I had a damaged disk – meaning to say I probably broke my backbone and it also dislocated.

“I want the company to compensate me. I can’t look for employment elsewhere because of my medical condition. I can hardly walk.”
