A FORMER Masvingo Magistrates’ Court prosecutor allegedly raped his 10-year-old stepdaughter, eventually forcing her to flee. The girl was taken from the streets by a Good Samaritan who took her to the Department of Social Welfare after listening to her ordeal.

She then reported the sexual abuse to officers from the social welfare department, leading to the arrest of the 43-year old stepfather.

The suspect is now a police constable based at Lupane Police Station in Matabeleland North. He appeared in court on Tuesday charged with rape. Masvingo provincial magistrate Mr Langton Ndokera remanded him in custody to September 25.

RAPE

The man was represented by Mr Frank Chirairo of Makausi Law Chambers.

Bail was denied after prosecution objected on fears he was a flight risk.

The court heard that between August 1 and September 6 this year, the man went to his matrimonial home in Mucheke, Masvingo.

He allegedly raped his stepdaughter on several occasions in his bedroom.

This happened as his wife was at work. Ms Nancy Makuvise appeared for the State. The man, who once served as a police prosecutor at the Masvingo magistrates court, was last year arrested for allegedly raping the same girl.

He was acquitted for lack of evidence.
