FLMs pay tribute to Mugabe Jacinto Filipe Nyusi

Former Liberation Movements member states in Southern Africa have paid tribute to former President Robert Mugabe for his immense contribution to liberation of Africa and his fearless fight against Western forces.

Giving solidarity messages at the 10th plenary session of the meeting of secretary generals here recently, FLM members described the late leader as a champion of democracy who fought fearlessly against neo-colonialists.

Apart from the host, Zanu-PF, the conference drew representatives from the ANC of South Africa, SWAPO of Namibia, Chama Cha Mapinduzi of the United Republic of Tanzania, FRELIMO of Mozambique and MPLA of Angola.

ANC secretary general Cde Elias Sekgobela Magashule hailed Cde Mugabe’s heroic revolutionary ideals.

“On behalf of the leadership of ANC and the people of South Africa, we convey our revolutionary gratitude and facilitations to all of you who gathered here today,” he said. “We are indeed humbled to be part of this gathering of great historical importance to the struggle of our people against the forces of imperialism and colonialism.

“One of the most outstanding revolutionaries of our time, and the father of the great nation of Zimbabwe, Cde Robert Gabriel Mugabe has departed the land of the living. On behalf of the leadership and membership of the ANC and the people of our country, we convey our sincere heartfelt condolences to his family, to the leadership and the membership of Zanu-PF, the revolutionary Government of Zimbabwe and the entire people of the great heroic nation of Zimbabwe.

“The ANC pays tribute to this heroic revolutionary son of our African continent. We pay homage to a titanic leader, and a hero of our struggle for liberation whose heart has ceased to beat.”

Cde Magashule said Cde Mugabe was a great fighter who spent all of his life in the trenches.

FLERIMO secretary Cde Francisco Macanheia said the former President was one of the undisputed leaders of the liberation movements of Southern Africa.

“We wish to reiterate the condolences of FLERIMO already expressed by our President Filipe Jacinto Nyusi to Zanu-PF and to the entire population of Zimbabwe for the loss of the founding father Cde Mugabe,” he said.

Chama Cha Mapinduzi deputy secretary general Cde Pereira Silima said the former President was a true Pan Africanist and champion of the liberation struggle in Southern Africa.

“His death is a great loss to the people of SADC and of Africa in general,” he said. “The best way to honour his exemplary leadership and invaluable contribution to our freedom is to undertake the struggles for economic independence of Africa with vigour and undying commitment.”

Botswana Democratic Party secretary general Cde Mpho Balopi said Cde Mugabe was one of the founding fathers of the frontline States.

Patriotic Front of Zambia deputy secretary general Cde Mumbi Josephine Phiri said Cde Mugabe was an African icon, who fought for the emancipation of black Africans.

SWAPO secretary-general Cde Sophia Shaningwa said Cde Mugabe was a liberation war hero par-excellence.

MPLA secretary general Cde Paulo Pombolo said Cde Mugabe was an epitome of knowledge in the region.
