Splash Paints and Plastics has donated wall and road marking paint worth $11 000 that will be used to spruce up the city as part of Harare City Council’s vision of creating a world class city by 2025.

Speaking during the handover ceremony last Friday, Splash Paints and Plastics managing director Mr Anis Patel said his company chose to partner with the city fathers in restoring the city’s sunshine status.

“We saw it fit to partner with the city on this great cause of restoring and upgrading the beauty of our city. The status of our roads and buildings is equally important when conducting this exercise,” he said.

He urged local people to support locally made products to boost the country’s economy.

“While we are busy importing our paints from other countries, for example our company is supplying road marking paint to our neighbouring countries like Mozambique, Zambia and Botswana.

“We urge Zimbabweans to buy local so that we can grow our economy,” he said.Harare Mayor Herbert Gomba thanked the company and urged other corporates to follow suit.

“We humbly accept this donation and this will go a long way in helping us to look after our roads.

“We are pushing with this agenda of renewing the city and we renew it through painting, refurbishments, construction of new facilities and infrastructure. We thank you for choosing to work with us,” he said.

He said it was important for different stakeholders to come together and support the Vision 2025.

“I want to encourage other businesses people to do the same to come forward and help rebuild the city.

“We need to work together to address the city’s problems. Let us be like those who came and designed the city at first. Then the council wasn’t looking at whether people are paying rates or not but it was dedicated to build a Harare that we are enjoying today,” said Mayor Gomba.

Town Clerk Engineer Hosiah Chisango said he was going to ensure that businesses in the city spruce up their premises as suggested by President Mnangagwa.

He said it was going to be difficult to enforce this when Town House was looking shabby and after repainting the heart of council administration they would go out in full force to urge other businesses to do likewise.
