Firearms deals land Bulawayo cop in court

A 44-year-old Bulawayo Based policeman appeared in court on allegations of dealing with firearms without a licence.
David Fugao was facing charges of contravening the Firearms Act when he appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Dennis Mangosi.
He was remanded in custody to tomorrow for bail ruling.
The court heard that on February 11, 2016, and at Bulawayo Firearms dealers, Fugao bought two high calibre rifles namely a 458 Interarms Witworth, serial number 8274989 and a 458 Winchester rifle, serial number G1130837.
The court heard that Fugao then acquired two defective firearm certificates on numbers 2724598 and 272460 8 respectively which he used to collect both firearms from Bulawayo Arms and sold them.
It is the State’s case that The Central Firearms Registry file number 167343 used by Fugao belong to Haward Haruwed Matombo.
The accused then sold or transferred both firearms to an unknown person without being registered as a firearms dealer.
On the third count it is alleged that on May 5, 2017 and at the same place, Fugao bought a 303 Royal rifle, serial number 19737.
He then allegedly acquired a defective firearm certificate number 889186A which he used to collect that firearm from the Bulawayo Arms and sold it.
The firearm certificate was checked and has no record at the Central Firearms Registry. Fugao, the court heard sold or transferred the firearm to an unknown person without being registered as a firearms dealer.
The court heard that on the fourth count which happened on April 13, 2018, and at Bulawayo Arms, Fugao bought a 223 Remington rifle, serial number C6224958 without being registered. Fugao allegedly acquired a defective firearm certificate number 944137A on CFR number 169567 which he used to collect the firearm and sold it.
The firearm certificate was checked and the Central Firearm Registry file number used belongs to Lameck Kukuta.
The accused then sold or transferred the firearm to an unknown person without being registered as a firearms dealer.
