Farmers are encouraged to embrace corporate farming practices to boost the country’s food security, Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water, and Rural Development Minister, Dr Anxious Masuka has said.
Dr Masuka told farmers attending a field day at Suncrown Estate in Zvimba that the Government will establish a division incubator to improve food security and economic opportunities for farmers.
“The division incubator farming method is an innovative agricultural technique that has the potential to significantly improve food security and economic opportunities for farmers in Zimbabwe,” he said.
“This method involves dividing a single plant into multiple smaller sections, each with its root system, and then cultivating those divided sections as independent plants,” he said.
“That is what we are doing so that every Zimbabwean who wants to participate in farming can get dividends out of that.
“By utilising the division incubator approach, farmers can effectively multiply their crop yields without requiring additional land or resources,” said Dr Masuka.
SunCrown Estate owner, Mr Albert Kamhunga said their wheat harvest will increase from last year.
“With such production levels, it means food security can be accomplished. The country’s wheat production can sustain the nation. To overcome the adverse effects of El Nino, we are using 16 boreholes to irrigate our crops,” said Mr Kamhunga.
