Cynthia Mafumhe was crowned Black Opal Face of Zimbabwe queen at the pageant which was held on Saturday at Harare International Conference Centre. Mafumhe beat 15 other contestants to walk away with $8 000 and a full year’s supply of Black Opal skincare and cosmetics. The first runner-up was Hazel Kurwakumire who pocketed $4 000 in prize money as well as six months’ supply of cosmetics while second runner-up Mercy Kamanura walked away with $2 000 and three months’ supply of cosmetics.

Mafumhe who is a pharmaceutical student at University of Zimbabwe sailed well through the question and answer segment and was also the crowd’s favorite.

In the question and answer session, the queen was asked about what she would do if given a chance to change the world, Mafumhe said, “I will stop child abuse because children are innocent and important”.

Some of the contestants stammered during the question and answer segment which left many doubting their credibility on beauty with brains.

At the pageant, the contestantrs competed for 50 percent of votes from judges since the other half of votes were from the members of the public.

By the time when public voting was closed, Mafumhe was already leading with a huge margin.

In an interview with The Herald Entertainment, the newly crowned BOFOZ queen said she was happy with the acheivement.

“It’s a dream come true for me. I really worked hard for this crown. This victory means a lot and I owe my success to God,” she said.

The bubbly queen said is yet to decide what she will do with her prize money.

Meanwhile the event saw a high profile entertainment from some of the country’s top musicians courtesy of Chipaz Promotions who include Jah Prayzah, Shinsoman, Soul Jah Love, Stunner and BaShupi among others.

Jah Prayzah stole the limelight when he battled out songs from his new album “Jerusarema” and some from his previous album such as “Ngoda which drove fans into frenzy.

Stunner with his ‘swag’ managed to put up scintillating performance as he sang songs from his old and new album.

Stunner and BaShupi were later joined on stage by ProBeats whose beat-boxing was out of this world with ‘Team Hombe’ singer doing a free style.

The hip-hop chanter also took time backstage with fans for a photoshoot.

On dancehall note, Shinsoman, Soul Jah Love and wife Bounty Lisa did well.
