IN 2014 we all wore them vowing never to have a wardrobe collection without them.

But faux fur rugs have had a little bit more of a hard time.

Some find them cheap looking; too much of a statement; hard to access; impractical — the list goes on. But we think it is about time the faux fur rug makes a comeback.

Or at least prove that they are really not all that bad.

In fact, they might be exactly what you are looking for to spice up your home. Faux fur looks particularly gorgeous in all-white rooms. It means you can lay and play with textures. Match white ruched sheets with linen throws, even rattan and a soft faux fur rug on the floor to finish. Your bedroom will be transformed into a relaxing, super snug haven.

Dining rooms can sometimes be a bit cold and they can be warmed by placing a large faux fur rug under the table, which may match the colour of the seats. We love how good it looks against this monochrome speckled wallpaper, dark wooden flooring and a pop of clementine orange. Sandra Adams who owns a home décor shop in the CBD said most people have been opting for faux fur as compared to other decorations.

“People want their homes to be cosy, so they are buying faux furs a lot. You see celebrities buying fur for their homes because it is the trending home décor at the moment,” Sandra said.

“Life’s too short to have only one faux fur rug. Play with how many you have, where you place them and what colours you use.”

“Grey and beige duo works well to add more depth to the room and add comfort to an otherwise bare room.”

Sandra said the grey and beige are perfect accompaniment to a cosy chair in front of the fireplace.

“There is nothing that screams comfort than faux fur. If you want to create instant warmth, both visually and physically, adding so some faux fur throws and pillows is definitely the way to go,” she added.

“When correctly done, faux fur can change the look of your home, making it look more sophisticated and beautiful, but make sure you do not over use it.” Faux fur usually looks good on the bed, couch or even chairs.

Accent all white décor with vibrant blue pillows, by so doing you will be enhancing the cosy vibe in your home.

Also, do-it-yourself pillows can work wonders in winter.

They add a cosy winter touch to your décor.

There is no need to dig deeper into your pockets. Make the most of those old sweaters you have not been able to part with, instead of throwing them away.

“Naked doors make guests feel unwelcome. Instead of letting your bare entrance get you down, dress it up with colourful flowers (wreaths). Create a chic modern look for your home in order to make it feel inviting,” Sandra added.

“It’s also a highly durable, resilient material, making it ideal for heavy-traffic areas like the living room. It is also a great investment.”

Also trending are organic textures, earthy tones and artisanal products in home décor.

When it comes to your floor space, the best natural rugs will add warmth and character to any area. Not only are natural rugs an easy way to add a modern rustic feel to your interiors, they’re also a really practical option.
