One thing that is certain about every living creature, more so human beings is death. What is not known always is how one might die. 

Would it be by way of a road traffic accident, an illness, or a gruesome death in the hands of robbers or some such criminal acts? 

Whichever, way one dies, the fact is death induces sorrow, pain, and anger at times among those left behind, be they family members, relatives, friends, or acquaintances. 

And therefore, most of us empathise with the Ali family on the death of their beloved mother, sister, whatever the case. 

It is the very reason we all pray that the police get to thoroughly investigate the circumstances of Moreblessing’s death and bring the culprits to justice. 

However, what is appalling about her death is the way some politicians and political activists have sought to exploit this tragic death to settle political scores or take advantage for personal political gain. How pathetic? Why are we killing our reverence and respect to the dearly departed? 

Morally repugnant 

The unfortunate gruesome death of Moreblessing has been taken advantage of by Washington Ali – let us discuss who Washington Ali who claims to be the brother of the deceased. 

Investigations reveal that his full name is Juma Washington Ali-Nasolo having changed it by deed in October 1992, from Juma Washington. There are plausible suggestions that Washington is just exploring similarities of surnames to claim close relations as he seeks to revive his long dead political career in opposition politics. 

It is believed he was trying to disguise and cover tracks of his life of crime in his growing years in the dusty streets of National, Mbare. 

Arriving in the UK in early 2001 having run away from Zimbabwe due to the long arm of the law closing in on him after his fraudulent and deceitful conduct, Washington, who is opposition MP Tendai Biti’s former brother-in-law, left Zimbabwe in a hurry, running away from individuals and businesses he had extorted money and equipment from. 

Initially he fled to Australia in late 1999, where he sought refuge and briefly lived with Biti’s first ex-wife and children who live in that country. 

His claims to political persecution by Zimbabwe’s authorities was completely rubbished by Australian authorities and was denied asylum, forcing him to go to the United Kingdom. 

Despite a fractious and stormy relationship with Nancy, Biti’s sister, she welcomed him back in her life, having twice fled from him due to domestic violence and his promiscuous ways.

Washington Ali has never actually held a job in his life. But has lived on the benevolence of the many women he charms his way into their hearts and bank accounts. 

While still in Zimbabwe, he would masquerade as a computer programmer of repute, pretending that he had the skills and knowledge to help businesses that were just beginning to computerise their activities and systems in the mid to late 90s. 

Ali would entice companies, lie to them that he can import computers for them or fix, including installing up-to-date software or repair “damaged” hardware. And those computers would never be seen again as he would sell them on. 

Washington, swindled parents of students from schools that were then known as Group A schools of their hard-earned cash as he falsely misrepresented that he would send them abroad to be cyclists as he pretended to have what he called “connections”. 

Aitovhara mari because he was once involved with the Zimbabwe Cyclists Association. He encouraged parents to buy expensive sport bikes that he would eventually steal and sell.

Upon settling in the United Kingdom, Ali soon recruited for the MDC under the pretext that he would help those who were seeking to settle, with immigration papers. 

He became the father of teaching Zimbabweans especially women how to seek asylum and deceive the UK immigration system. 

To write confirmation letters of MDC membership, Washington teamed up with Stanford Biti, younger brother to Tendai, to exchange letters for sex if one did not have cash. 

Washington designated himself chairman, a powerful position which allowed him to have full control of all things MDC in the UK and Ireland. Intimidating people as “influential” Tendai Biti’s brother-in-law, Ali went on to register the MDC as his company in the UK with him as chairman/chief executive, Stanford as company secretary and one Suzet Kwenda as director. 

Through this company, both Ali and Stanford Biti went on to buy houses in 2004 in Southend-on Sea. And this was barely three years after both had arrived in the United Kingdom with nothing, but rucksacks. 

The cost of an MDC membership card fetched a 100 pounds at some point as Ali milked desperate Zimbabwe community members.

Eventually in January 2006, the MDC Youth Assembly had had enough of Ali’s shady dealings, chicanery and deceit and they forcibly removed Ali from the position of chairman at a meeting held in Northampton, UK. 

Among the reasons given by the MDC Youth as quoted, “It is evident that there has been failure by Mr Washington Ali to account for the funds generated for the party through the sale of membership cards. We must remember that we are guests in the UK and must not abuse the trust of the people of our host nation’’. 

The statement words are a true reflection of a man who has lived by deceit and fraudulent claims of who he is not. No wonder there are doubts about his claims to be Moreblessing’s real brother.

Having become homeless after Nancy was tired of being embarrassed and humiliated and kicked him out, eventually divorced and the house repossessed, Washington has been of no fixed abode since 2006. 

The irony of it is that his own immigration status is still outstanding and is now exploiting Moreblessing’s unfortunate death to show up his still pending asylum case. 

He previously used fake documents to obtain a mortgage. His irresponsible life has led to none of his four children with Nancy wanting nothing to do with him. He has tried various projects designed to swindle Zimbabweans and UK taxpayers’ money, feigning that he is an advocate for democracy and human rights in Zimbabwe. What human rights when he cannot even accord the children he seared and abandoned the right to a father? 

Lobbying the British using Moreblessing 

A shadowy organisation calling itself the Zimbabwe Human Rights Organisation, domiciled in the United Kingdom sought to exploit the disappearance of Moreblessing as they contacted the UK House of Lords to see what additional pressures the UK Government can bring. The person they abused is Lord Oates whom they send the e-mail on 8th June 2022 saying, 

Dear Lord Oates,

You may well be aware of the reported abduction of ‘Moreblessing Ali’, a female political activist belonging to the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC). Moreblessing Ali was abducted in public on May 24,2022 at a place called Chibhanguza Shopping Centre, Nyatsime in Beatrice.

Her brother Washington Ali, is here in the UK and would like to seek a meeting with you (Teams Meeting, or in person) regarding this apparent uptick in political intimidation (presumably in preparations for the 2023 Elections?). Washington is the former UK and Ireland province chairman (of the then MDC), and currently the “Diaspora Resource Mobilisation Coordinator” Globally for the new CCC.

You had done us the service of a Teams Meeting in January this year for the My Right to Vote campaign, but these events, we hope, are not a foretaste of further undemocratic behaviours ahead.

If there is also any “questions” you are able to ask the Government Benches in the Lords, this too would be greatly appreciated.

The gullible Lord responded and offered meeting slots for these heartless activists on 10th June 2022! 

It is most unfortunate that Lord Oates agreed and believed the word of Ali a man with such an unsavoury character. 

Did the Dear Lord do any due diligence before meeting these charlatans? It seems not. What then happened was a submission by the Lord of written questions to Her Majesty’s Government on what action they are taking on Moreblessing and prospects of credible elections in 2023! What an abuse! Will Her Majesty’s government be influenced by these self-seeking agendas of criminals who are playing victimhood?  

Juma Washington Ali, a fugitive who is exploiting grief as he seeks to curry favour and revive his long dead political activism. We see through it all. Is it not better to wait for the conclusion of the investigations by the Zimbabwe Republic Police? It is not proper to comment and make conclusions on a live investigation.
