A cappella gospel group, Shower Power, will set the tone when ex-prisoners launch their eight track album “Kudzoka Kumba/Coming Back Home” next week at Anglican Cathedral Hall in the capital. Ex-prisoners, who were well-known as Divine Touch during their time in prison, are warming up to the “home coming”concert set for July 19.

They will be supported by other acappella gospel groups including “Stand”, “Behold” from Gweru, “Warm Praise” and “Bliss” from Mutare.
The show is courtesy of Free Divine International Trust that facilitated everything with the thrust of promoting reintegration of ex-inmates into the society through projects in arts and other various projects.

Programmes director for Free Divine International Trust, Albiton Padera said there will be a galaxy of entertainment and promised a show of a lifetime.

“There is going to be a lot of activities since FDIT will be giving them (ex-prisoners) a platform to share both testimonies and their talents.
“Our organisation would like to see interaction between the society and them.

“We will continue to facilitate various projects to ensure that reintegration is achieved,” he said.
Padera said their organisation’s main thrust is to raise crime awareness by ensuring that crime messages are communicated at all levels.
He added: “We owe our gratitude to Diamond Studios for offering their services in the production of the album.”

On April 11 this year, the organisation did a street clean-up campaign with the group in order to raise awareness to the public and also promote their reintegration to the community.

Its motivation to the projects comes after witnessing some challenges that ex-prisoners are facing in reuniting with the communities that include stigma and discrimination.

Since its inception last year, FDIT has been working with ZRP Commissioner-General’s office, Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services and Ministry of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, among other stakeholders in order to achieve its goals.
