Eto’o record finally broken Samuel Eto’o

PARIS. — Cameroon striker Jean-Pierre Nsame has broken the incredible goal-scoring record held by compatriot and Barcelona legend Samuel Eto’o for over a decade.

The Young Boys star netted a brace for the Swiss Super League champions on Monday in a 3-1 victory over St Gallen to take his overall tally to 32 goals in as many games which surpasses what Eto’o achieved in the 2008/09 season.

Eto’o scored 30 La Liga goals in 36 appearances for the Spanish giants in his final season before joining Internazionale, which marked the most goals scored by a Cameroonian in European top-flight history.

Nsame’s exploits with the Swiss giants have now secured them three consecutive league titles but his incredible displays have not just been limited to the league campaign.

With four goals in the Swiss Cup and two in the UEFA Europa League, the 27-year-old has recorded a staggering 38 goals in 43 games, along with five assists.

His 32-goal haul also surpasses the record of most-goal scored in a single season for the club that was previously held by Ivory Coast’s Seydou Doumbia (30) in 2009/10 while equalling Mohamed Salah’s iconic feat.

Nsame and the Liverpool superstar now share the record as the highest-scoring African in a top-flight European league after the Egypt international netted 32 in his debut season with Jurgen Klopp’s men. — AFP.
