THREE suspected car thieves have been arrested in Harare leading to the recovery of six vehicles.

Denver Tinotenda Kazembe (26), Nicholas Kudzaishe Chinyangara (48) and Edwin Mupako (37) targeted vehicles at car parks and parking bays in and around Harare.

National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the suspects stole the six vehicles between May and August 3 this year.

On Thursday last week, detectives from CID Vehicle Theft Squad arrested Denver Tinotenda Kazembe at Gazaland Shopping Centre in Highfield after receiving a tip-off that he was selling a Honda Fit stolen at a nightclub in Kuwadzana, Harare, on August 3.

“The arrest led to the recovery of the vehicle and subsequent arrest of the other two suspects. Further investigations by the detectives led to the recovery of five other stolen vehicles,” Comm Nyathi said.

He said the suspects targeted vehicles  at parking bays and car parks mainly outside nightclubs and at shopping centres.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police warns criminals involved in vehicle theft in the country that crack teams are on high alert and will effect arrests on criminal syndicates without fear or favour,” Comm Nyathi said.

He commended members of the public for providing valuable information and encouraged anyone with information concerning criminal activities in the country to contact the National Complaints Desk at (024) 2703631 or WhatsApp on 0712 800 197 or report at any nearest police station.
