PRESIDENT Mnangagwa will tomorrow officiate at the launch of the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) and National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) anti-graft awareness campaign in Harare as the fight against the scourge gathers momentum.

The launch will be held at Barclays Sports Club.

Government institutions, members of the diplomatic community, civil society and various stakeholders are expected to attend the launch.

The objective of the awareness campaign is to support the national thrust against corruption and conscientise the public on the negative effects of corruption in society.

Addressing journalists in Harare yesterday, Prosecutor-General Mr Kumbirai Hodzi said the launch is an important step in the fight against corruption.

“We are about to launch the ZACC-NPA anti-corruption programme. It is a very important event on our calendar and it does not need emphasis. At the end of the day, the fight against corruption is the cornerstone of the Second Republic.

“From the inaugural address by President Mnangagwa when he assumed office in 2017, it had always been emphasised that the economic recovery programme was predicated upon a credible anti-corruption programmes,” he said.

Mr Hodzi said the re-commissioning of ZACC marks another phase in the fight against corruption and implored the media to report extensively on corruption-related issues.

“With the re-commissioning of ZACC, we are now entering a second phase in the fight against corruption, where ZACC will move a gear up in the fight against corruption with more teeth.

“Journalists have a role to play in publishing important anti-graft programmes by the Government,” he said.

Speaking at the same occasion, ZACC Chairperson Justice Loice Matanda-Moyo commended the media for reporting positively on corruption issues.

She also implored the media to continue assisting in the fight against corruption.

“Journalists are very important in the fight against corruption, while we are not underestimating the role you play in investigative journalism, I just want to thank you for the way you are reporting matters of corruption,” she said.
