President Mnangagwa has been commended for transforming the economy within a short space of time with the ruling Zanu PF Women’s League lauding him for embarking on game-changing infrastructural projects which have firmly placed the country on the cusp of prosperity. 

The Zanu PF Women’s League yesterday noted that President Mnangagwa had since assuming office in 2017, spearheaded many programmes that had already started benefiting the nation as it moved towards attaining Vision 2030. 

The new dispensation was working round the clock to revive the national economy through various interventions which had already started paying dividends. 

Zanu PF Women’s League National Secretary Cde Mabel Chinomona said the wing was impressed by the work being done by President Mnangagwa to transform the economy. 

Speaking during the provincial launch of a programme by the league to incapacitate ruling party women to produce face mask in the light of the Covid-19 pandemic, Cde Chinomona said: “The President was anointed to lead this country and we should all support him. 

“He has done a tremendous job in a space of three years part of which involves correcting mistakes done by the previous dispensation,” said Cde Chinomona. 

“We have been independent for 41 years but if we compare what has happened before and what has been happening over the last three years, we notice that there are big changes in every sphere of economic life. 

“We must give the President all the support that he needs to continue with his development agenda to grow the national economy.

At the same function former MDC Masvingo Senator Ethel Mabhugu dumped the beleaguered opposition party to join Zanu PF. 

Senator Manhugu’s defection comes after former leading opposition members among them former Chitungwiza Senator Cde James Makore and ex-Masvingo Urban legislator Cde Tongai Matutu also dumped the party to join Zanu PF. 

Mrs Mabhugu officially renounced her membership of the MDC at Maungwa Business Centre in Gutu South before Zanu PF Women’s League Secretary Cde Mabel Chinomona at the provincial launch of the face mask making programme that was also attended by other senior party members, including Cde Monica Mutsvangwa, the Women’s League Secretary for Administration. 

Speaking after officially being announced as a Zanu PF member, Mrs Mabhugu said she was lost in the opposition wilderness and was now happy to be home. 

She chanted slogans in praise of President Mnangagwa and Zanu PF. 

“I am now happy that I am back home in Zanu PF which is under the able leadership of President Mnangagwa. I was lost and I am now found. 

“I will do everything to make sure Zanu PF and President Mnangagwa win the next elections in 2023,” said Mrs Mabhugu. 

When Cde Chinomona announced that Mrs Mabhugu was now a Zanu PF member, she jumped from the crowd where she was seated clad in ruling party regalia and ululated as she waited to be paraded. 

Mrs Mabhugu assured Cde Chinomona that she would make sure Zanu PF won the forthcoming polls.

She praised President Mnangagwa for his pro-people policies and development projects taking place in the country.

Cde Chinomona pointed out that Mrs Mabhugu’s defection from MDC showed the opposition was doomed and President Mnangagwa was doing good work that resonated with the wishes of the majority. A lot has happened in our country over the last three years and as the Women’s League, we support the President as our candidate in 2023,” said Cde Chinomona, who warned people against harbouring ambitions on President Mnangagwa’s position. 

President Mnangagwa’s scoreboard on leading the nation was very impressive despite challenges such as illegal sanctions and Covid-19.

“The President is doing well and everyone can see that our roads are being upgraded and new dams being built among other infrastructural projects and all this is happening in the face of illegal sanctions. 

“President Mnangagwa is executing the most successful Covid-19 vaccination campaign in the entire SADC region and again, this is happening under the weight of sanctions. We should rally behind such a leader,” said Cde Chinomona. 

She appealed to ruling party leaders to foster unity and continue to grow the party towards garnering five million votes for the President in 2023. 

Among measures aimed at fighting poverty and unemployment, President Mnangagwa’s administration had founded the Women’s Microfinance Bank to extend affordable loans to the generality of the people. 

Speaking at the same event, Zanu PF Women’s League Secretary for Administration Cde Monica Mutsvangwa said the wing was impressed by the sterling work being done by President Mnangagwa. 

She said President Mnangagwa was a pro-people leader firmly focused on transforming people’s lives. 

“We need to continue rallying behind our President who is having sleepless nights and working hard to improve the lives of Zimbabweans even in the face of hardships. 

“Our President wants to make sure the lives of his people improve and all the ongoing infrastructural projects are testament to this. By 2025, Zimbabwe will be a net exporter of electricity and this is all because of President Mnangagwa’s visionary leadership.” 

Cde Mutsvangwa warned party members against back-biting each and rumour-mongering saying Zanu PF was founded on the values of sacrifice and discipline. 

Cde Mnangagwa deserved another term in 2023 due to the excellent work he was doing to improve the country’s economy. 

“Zanu PF is a revolutionary party and we respect and follow our leaders and that is what won us the war. We should continue supporting our leaders and espouse discipline as true party cadres. 

“We have war veterans today and they should know that Government, through the Ministry of Finance, is working on measures to improve their welfare,” said Cde Mutsvangwa.

She underscored the importance of unity in Zanu PF and in Masvingo in particular, saying it was key if the province was to bag all the 26 House of Assembly seats in 2023. 

Cde Mutsvangwa challenged ruling party members in Masvingo to draw inspiration from liberation struggle icons such as the late Vice President Simon Muzenda and the late former Masvingo Minister of State Cde Shuvai Mahofa. 

Earlier, Cdes Chinomona and Mutsvangwa had toured an exhibition of various items showcased by members of the Women’s League drawn from the seven districts in Masvingo province. 

Cde Chinomona, with the assistance of Cde Mutsvangwa, distributed face masks to party members and also donated material to make more masks. 

Among those who received material to make face masks where former commercial sex workers from Zaka who dumped their trade and now want to earn a decent living through the assistance of Zanu PF. 

Some of the former commercial sex workers spoke at the event and pledged to start new lives, thanking Zanu PF for helping them to see the light. 

Among those present at the event was Zanu PF Secretary for Security Cde Lovemore Matuke and the Minister of State for Masvingo Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Cde Ezra Chadzamira, who is also the party’s provincial chair.
