The sixth edition of the popular talent search show Dreamstar Zimbabwe is set to roll this Saturday with auditions for university students, organisers have said.

The talent show is an entertainment platform that seeks to empower local talented youths aged between 12 and 40, who are in the arts and culture, to help them rise from the backstage to the official stage.

The “University Tour” will start at Midlands States University followed by another audition in Masvingo at Great Zimbabwe University on April 13.

Talented singers, dancers, beat-boxers, magicians, and all other performing artists are invited to audition and stand to win life-changing opportunities.

In an interview, event spokesperson Tinashe Kitchen said the auditions for universities are aimed at promoting young talented people in Zimbabwe.

“As it has become our new norm that we start with universities auditions before going into cities this year we are starting with Midlands States University on Saturday.

“The auditions are a continuation of the event’s mission to promote the arts and culture industry in Zimbabwe through the identification and provision of platforms for young, talented artists across all genres,” he said.

Winners from the universities will each get $200 and will automatically enter into the national semi-finals to be held later.

The event has become bigger and better as organisers have introduced Dreamstar inner city tour.

“After the Dreamstar University Tour, it will be followed up by the Dreamstar City Tour, and for the first time ever, the Dreamstar inner-city tour, as Jacaranda Culture and Media Corporation(JCMC) seeks to find new ways to reach a wider and more diverse audience.

“We are targeting high density areas and we are hoping to have three or four auditions in Harare,” said Kitchen.

Winners at the grand finale  will get top prizes that include a tour to China, opportunities to work full time both in China and in Zimbabwe, recording deals with JCMC Studios.

Top winner will get cash prize of $5 000 while the first and second runner up will get $3 000 and $1 500 respectively.

Dreamstar Zimbabwe sponsored by the Chinese Federation of Zimbabwe, The Embassy of China, National Arts Council of Zimbabwe and Jacaranda Culture and Media Corporation.
