Award winning stand-up comedian Victor Mpofu, popularly known in the entertainment circles as “Doc Vikela”, has honoured legendary musician Oliver Mtukudzi by dedicating his NAMA award to him.

Doc Vikela was named the outstanding comedian during the NAMAs held over the weekend.

Speaking at the official opening of Gotcha Nyama Bar and Grill where Tuku was performing, Doc Vikela said he owed the Award to the veteran music superstar whom he said usually teases during performances.

“I would like to honour this man, the legendary superstar Oliver Mtukudzi.

“It is because of the teasing that I do during my performances.

“It is teasing him that made me buy my first car, pay lobola and win the NAMA Award last Saturday,” Doc Vikela said before cracking the Tuku joke about the superstar being the darkest man on earth.

Tuku responded by telling Doc Vikela that it was because of his complexion that his wife fell in love with him.

“I am busy working here and you are doing jokes, ‘kutopiwa Award yekundiseenza.’ But what I like is that you are even darker than me. Only that you put on white shirts and as for me my wife loves this complexion so much,” said Mtukudzi, sending the auditorium into delirium.

Meanwhile, Tuku also hailed his wife Daisy for looking after him all these years and being the woman behind his success.

“I can see everyone is putting on red today and this reminds me of my wife whom I left home also putting red.

“That woman is behind my success and when I write songs, each song has its meaning, we just don’t write,” he said before singing the song ‘Daisy”, a dedication to his wife.

Tuku, who serenaded the lovers celebrating Valentine’s Day at the Gotcha Nyama Bar and Grill, also shared his life experiences before turning to music.
