Rumba group Diamond Musica will this weekend combine forces with reggae outfit Transit Crew for shows in Shamva and Ruwa.Tomorrow the groups perform at Tippaz Bar in Shamva before performing at Mtangaz Hideout in Ruwa for a family show on Sunday.

Diamond Musica has maintained its presence on the local scene despite general decline of rhumba popularity on the showbiz scene.

The group’s leader Pitchou Lumiere says they are determined to keep the genre alive and serve die-hard rhumba fans that follow their shows wherever they go.

He said working with Transit Crew would bring an interesting combination of reggae and rhumba genres that appeal to mature fans who enjoyed these styles when they took the local showbiz industry by storm some years ago.

“Rhumba and reggae were very popular genres in the country a few years ago and we know there are many people who still follow the genres. We believe we can convince young people that this music is good. We play the music in a good way and those who come to our shows will never be disappointed,” said Pitchou.

Diamond Musica of the “Chikolokolo Chamota” fame is one of the popular rhumba groups that stormed the local music industry from the Democratic Republic of Congo more than a decade ago and settled in the country.

The group’s choreography, enhanced by the talented dancing queens, has been outstanding over the years.

On the other hand, Transit Crew has been consistent on the reggae front and provided people with classic reggae gems.

Their mature songs have serenaded music listeners in various venues in Harare and their performances in Shamva and Ruwa are likely to broaden their fan base.
