Davipel Group of Companies has opened a state-of-the-art maize grit and snack manufacturing plant in the country. The $12 million plant comes at a time when the country is geared up for expansion in the business sector.

The plant opened in the Sunway City Industrial Park was awash with excitement as captains of industry congratulated the company for its efforts.

Speaking at the official opening, President Emmerson Mnangagwa applauded the group on its innovative step towards increasing the country’s production while becoming leaders in creativity.

“I commend Davipel for its ingenuity which saw an additional investment in a milling plant which is the first of its kind in the country and will produce feedstock to the processing plant. It is pleasing to note that we have indigenous companies who have grasped the value addition, beneficiation and import substitution concepts,” said the President.

Also speaking at the launch, Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce (ZNCC) president Divine Ndhlukula said the move taken by the group has shown the steps that the country is ready to take towards technological advancements in business.

“Today, we witness a magnificent plant using exceptional food processing technology. Food processing is regarded as a priority industry due to its enormous impact and significance in the development and industrialisation potential in Zimbabwe and in Africa,” she said.

The addition of the milling plant to the group has met a need in the industry. Minister of Industry, Commerce and Enterprise Development Mike Bimha said he was pleased because the potential of the Zimbabwean industrial sector is being realised.

“Davipel Group of companies is a key player in the agro-processing value chain as it transforms maize into secondary or value added products. Value chain participation is a crucial element of any industrial strategy because it has the potential to extend production possibilities and enable utilisation of natural and human resources,” he said.

Addressing delegates at the launch Davipel Group managing director Davison Norupiri was pleased with the efforts of his team, partners and stakeholders that have allowed the company to reach these heights.

“Allow me thank our partners, that is, our customers, our suppliers and our banking partners, in every step of the way in the growth of our Company. You are central and crucial in our group’s being and becoming,” he said.

He added that the group will not stop here as they have bigger plans in the pipeline.

“Davipel as you may know is the largest Corn Snack Manufacturing Company in Zimbabwe and third largest in the region, which has more than 150 snack manufacturing companies. Our ambition is to be recognized as the biggest snack manufacturing company in the region,” he said.
