Chinhoyi University of Technology (CUT) has donated 65 computers to various schools in the province as a way of strengthening their relationship with feeder schools.

Other critical Government agencies also benefited from the generous gesture. A team of technicians, who will assist in the installation and operation of the computers, will also be provided to beneficiaries.

Addressing delegates who attended the handover ceremony on Friday last week, CUT Vice Chancellor Professor David Simbi said strengthening relations with the feeder schools was critical for the institution.

“We rely on feeder schools and we have to find ways of working with our schools and the community at large. The society gives us students and without these students, we cannot be a university,” said Prof Simbi.

“The ‘A’ level results showed that the number of sciences students who passed all three subjects is less than 3 000, yet we have 20 universities in the country that also expect to have students from these same schools. This means that we all have to compete for students, which we can deal with at this level.”

CUT believes that adopting ICT would bring development in communities.Speaking at the same occasion, CUT Pro Vice Chancellor Professor Zororo Muranda said rural schools should also take the opportunity to bring development to their schools.

“Our communities are becoming dependent on interconnectivity and this means our children should be able to operate computers. This goes hand-in-hand with the new curriculum. Our schools should also consider this to be a good persuasion for electricity to be brought to the communities,” he said.

Schools that received computers were Mhanyame, Chirorodziva, Muzamindo, Sengwe, Chikohore, Nemakonde and Musoromuchena, among others. The ZRP and Agritex were also beneficiaries.
