The massive gig dubbed “2012 Closing Show, Woza 2013”, courtesy of Chipaz Promotions, is expected to ignite New Year celebrations among sungura and dancehall fans as they get into the year 2013 on a high.
Topping the bill is sungura ace Alick Macheso while on the dancehall front Freeman, Sniper Storm, Lady Squanda and King Shaddy are also expected to thrill the crowd.
The show is expected to usher revellers into a new year that promises better fortunes for most Zimbabweans.
Dreaming big and correcting all the wrongs and failures of 2012 is on top of everyone’s wish list for the coming year.
For most artistes, celebrating their achievements this year and aiming to do better in the forthcoming year is definitely a priority.
Revellers should expect nothing short of fireworks as Macheso, who capped a fine year by releasing his ninth album “Kwatabva Mitunhu (Kure Kwekure), will do what he knows best.
On the other hand, King Shady — who in recent years was associated with vulgar lyrics — has become a changed man, singing about social ills and life in the ghetto.
He is ranked as one of the best dancehall chanters in the country and is basking in the glory of the success of his latest album titled “Merciless”.
Freeman of the “Joina City” fame has also become popular amongst youths and always leaves many a dancehall fan spellbound and asking for more.
Those in the know will attest that Lady Squanda has already shown that she has got the tenacity, stamina, energy to set Mubaiwa Hotel ablaze. Sniper Storm has also re-invented himself and the chanter is enjoying a wave of popularity since the release of his chart topper “Love Yemusoja”.
“The General”, as Sniper Storm is affectionately known, has won the hearts of many women with his song that denounces gender-based violence.
With a fired up line-up like this one, the closing gig has all the ingredients of a of a thriller.
While Macheso is expected to retain his title as the sungura king, it remains to be seen who among the dancehall chanters will emerge victorious.
Meanwhile, Jamaican star Popcaan is expected to set the Harare International Conference Centre on fire tonight when he is joined by Winky D, Guspy Warrior, Dadza D, Ricky Fire and Mic Inity as supporting acts.
