The Zimbabwe Republic Police has identified four of the six people who were burnt beyond recognition when a Ford Bantam pick-up truck they were travelling in was involved in an accident along the Masvingo-Beitbridge Road on Sunday.

The accident occurred at the 259-kilometre peg when the vehicle veered off the road, hit a tree and burst into flames.

Chief police spokesperson Commissioner Charity Charamba said they were yet to identify the remaining two.

The four who have been identified are the driver Nervous Sarawadano Zvikono (39), his wife Esnath Ngwenya (38) and their sons Ephraim Nenyasha (7) and Never Anenyasha (1) who were all living in South Africa.

“The identity of the other two deceased remains unknown,” said Comm Charamba. “We would like to appeal to members of the public missing their relatives to approach ZRP Beitbridge for assistance in carrying out DNA tests.

“We urge motorists to exercise extreme caution and avoid speeding when travelling.”

The accident comes after five people — four men and a woman —died last week in an accident involving a Toyota Wish travelling from Chegutu to Chinhoyi.

The accident occurred at the 80km peg along the Chegutu-Chinhoyi Road, about 20 kilometres to Chinhoyi when the driver of the Toyota Wish was suspected to have lost control of the vehicle.

Indications were that the vehicle veered off the road, overturned several times before landing on its left side about 20 metres from the road.

Passers-by discovered the vehicle on Sunday morning in the bush.
