Copacabana Traders Mall (CTM), which is operating a vending shed for more than 300 formal and informal vendors yesterday said the public toilets at the terminus were being refurbished as part of its corporate social responsibility.

Speaking during the ground breaking ceremony, CTM’s chief executive Mr Gladman Dhliwayo said there was need to refurbish and extend the toilets to accommodate more people coming into the city centre, as well as to meet the city council’s Vision 2025 goals of achieving world class city status.

“We have identified the need for extending the restrooms to make them state-of-the-art so that they accommodate more people especially women,” he said.

“The construction will commence next week and is going to take two weeks, and the designs will also have changing rooms for babies.

“There will be three more cubicles each for both men and women. These public facilities play a critical role in our lives whether we are men or women, able-bodied or living with disability. The reality is that we all need restrooms.”

City of Harare acting mayor councillor Enoch Mupamawonde said the gesture would go a long way in facilitating the ongoing urban renewal programme in Harare.

“We all need easy access to toilets to relieve ourselves,” he said.

“This facility I am told will cater for the needs of mothers and women, and people living with disability.
