A Congolese man has been fined $150 for violating the Immigration Act after he unlawfully and intentionally entered the country from South Africa.

Jean Paul Wenda Kayembe (40) pleaded guilty when he appeared before magistrate Mrs Learnmore Mapiye facing charges of contravening Section 29 (1) (a) of the Immigration Act by “entering and remaining without a valid permit”.

Prosecutor Mr Peter Kachirika said on April 9 at around 11am, Kayembe proceeded to the Zimbabwe Immigration Headquarters intending to access a Zimbabwean Visa.

He produced two Democratic Republic of Congo passports, the first one was new and the second old.
The new passport had a Nigerian Visa issued in Pretoria, South Africa, on March 25 and both showed no record of entry endorsement into Zimbabwe.

The new passport was issued on May 11 2018 and expires on March 2023 and the old one was issued on October 23, 2013 and expired on October 2016.
He was handed over to the police.

Meanwhile, a Harare man appeared in court on Wednesday facing allegations of failing to safeguard his firearm resulting in it being stolen.

Afarashe Gambiza (52) appeared before Mrs Braba Mateko who deferred the matter to April 25.
Prosecutor Mr Peter Kachirika alleged that on January 18, Gambiza took his unloaded Norinco Pistol and put it under the driver’s seat.

Gambiza then proceeded to Causeway Building car park where he intended to meet a friend, parked his vehicle leaving the firearm unattended.

It is alleged Panashe Mavhunga broke into the accused’s vehicle and stole the firearm. Gambiza was charged for failing to safeguarding the firearm.
