Samora Machel Avenue, where the Constitutional Court is located, will tomorrow be partially closed for 16 hours to ensure security during the hearing of a presidential election petition filed by MDC-Alliance leader Mr Nelson Chamisa. Mr Chamisa, who lost in the just-ended presidential election to President Mnangagwa, claims the election was rigged.

He accuses the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) of conniving with Zanu-PF to rig the election against him.
President Mnangagwa, according to ZEC’s official results, won the election with 50,8 percent of the total vote against Chamisa who got 44,3 percent.

In a statement, the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) said Samora Machel Avenue will be closed between Sam Nujoma Street and Simon V Muzenda Street to ensure a peaceful and smooth hearing of the important matter.
The road will be closed from 5am to 9pm on Wednesday.

“The Judicial Service Commission wishes to advise members of the public that on Wednesday 22 August 2018, the following roads will be closed between 0500 hours and 2100 hours: Samora Machel Avenue, between Sam Nujoma and Simon V Muzenda Streets,” said the JSC. “This is to make way for the hearing of the presidential election petition on 22 August 2018 at the Constitutional Court.”
