Herentals College sports organiser Steven Mururi yesterday appeared in court on allegations of stealing US$7 400 and $4 600 from a Borrowdale house using duplicate keys.

Mururi (36) was also facing unlawful entry charges when he appeared before Harare magistrate Mrs Victoria Mashamba.

He is on $200 bail.

Allegations are that on June 10, Mururi unlawfully entered into Mr Prince Chifamba’s house using a duplicate key and stole US$7 400 and $4 600 and fled.

The court heard that Mururi was seen by two people, Brian Mapuranga and Elena Supuhana, carrying a black and orange satchel entering Mr Chifamba’s yard. The court heard that after 30 minutes, Mururi was seen locking the door and leaving the house. That same day, the court heard that Mururi proceeded to a car sale and bought a Honda fit using the money he allegedly stole from Chifamba’s house.

It is alleged that an identification parade was conducted and Mururi was positively identified by Mapuranga and Supuhana.

The court heard that only US$4 300 was recovered from him.
