Harare City Council has vowed to address perennial water shortages in eastern suburbs which have gone for over eight years without constant water supply, deputy chairperson of the Environment Committee Councillor Stewart Matiza has said.

Areas such as Sentosa, Mabelreign, Greencroft, Sunridge and Sabi, Zambezi and Tokwe flats are the most affected.

Ward 16 Councillor Denford Ngadziore said the water problem in Mabelreign and Sentosa had been a longstanding issue which needed to be addressed urgently.

Speaking after the committee’s tour of the area last week, Cllr Matiza said council was addressing perennial water problems in the areas.

“The tour was meant to assess the water situation in the areas in Ward 16,” he said.

“We noted that most of the areas are not receiving water at all, and as a result, we have seen quite a lot of infrastructure  has to be upgraded so that whenever there is water at Morton Jaffray, they also receive it.”
