As Cimas gears up for the Pedal-2-Wellness cycling event, the group is calling for improved cycling infrastructure in Harare to ensure the safety of cyclists.
The event, which seeks to promote physical fitness and raise awareness about drug and substance abuse, is set for September 21 at Borrowdale Office Park.
Pedal-2-Wellness will also support mental health initiatives, with a portion of the proceeds going to the Chikurubi Psychiatric Unit.
Cimas Health Group chief executive officer, Mr Vuli Ndlovu stressed the importance of safer cycling infrastructure.
“Cycling is not just a mode of transport, it is a pathway to improving our overall well-being. As cycling becomes an increasingly popular choice, we must work together to create a healthier, greener future,” said Mr Ndlovu.
He urged the City of Harare to invest in cycling lanes and adequate signage to protect cyclists on urban roads.
Road Safe Zimbabwe, an organisation promoting road safety, has also been active in advocating the safety of cyclists.
“Cyclists are among the most vulnerable road users. There is no adequate and safe infrastructure for cycling in Zimbabwe. Motorists are running over cyclists, leaving several injured and some dead,” said the organisation’s director Mr Sam Nyaude.
