The High Court has thrown out for lack of merit an application by lawyer Mr Tawanda Zhuwarara challenging the reinstatement of Harare town clerk Dr Tendai Mahachi, who had been suspended by the city mayor for failure to produce a schedule for senior management’s salaries and benefits.Mayor Mr Bernard Manyenyeni on January 30 suspended Dr Mahachi for three months, but two days later Local Government, Public Works and National Housing Minister Dr Ignatius Chombo reinstated the town clerk.

Mr Zhuwarara, in his capacity as a concerned Harare resident, filed an urgent chamber application at the High Court challenging the decision by Dr Chombo, describing it as interference.

Justice Loice Matanda-Moyo on Friday threw out the application after Minister Chombo’s lawyer, Advocate Thembinkosi Magwaliba, produced a document proving Mr Manyenyeni had already complied with the minister’s directive.

Mr Zhuwarara’s lawyer Ms Belinda Chinowawa confirmed the development.
