GOVERNMENT has ordered miners at Mukaradzi in Mt Darwin to vacate the area with immediate effect as their continued stay has led to the rise in cholera cases.

Minister of State for Mashonaland Central Provincial Affairs Cde Monica Mavhunga said people were being reinfected when they go back to the area after treatment.

She said by Tuesday morning, there were 196 confirmed cases of cholera, with four people having succumbed to the disease, with 11 people currently admitted at Mt Darwin Hospital and Mukaradzi Tent.

Cde Mavhunga said even licensed miners must leave the area until the situation normalises as the pandemic does not choose between licensed and non–licensed miners.
