THE feud between former Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) president Philip Chiyangwa and the suspended association’s leader Felton Kamambo is far from over after the former revived a case where he was accusing the latter of insulting him through text messages sometime in 2019.

Kamambo was yesterday summoned back in court to answer to allegations of insulting Chiyangwa through text messages during the build up to the ZIFA presidency elections in 2019.

He is charged with violating the Postal and Telecommunication Act ‘sends by telephone any message that he knows to be false for the purpose of causing annoyance, inconvenience or needless anxiety to any person’. 

The matter was supposed to kick-off yesterday, but was deferred to November 15, as both the State and Kamambo were not ready for commencement of trial.

They all needed more time for preparations. The matter was set for November 17 for trial.

It is the State’s case that on November 19, 2019 Kamambo allegedly texted WhatsApp messages to Chiyangwa saying:

“Hie President. You are urged to stop your funny and negative interferences with football, meanwhile urgently start accounting for all ZIFA money you stole”.

Irked by the said message, Chiyangwa, went to lodge a complaint with the police leading to Kamambo’s arrest. 

In November 2019, Kamambo was jointly charged with suspended ZIFA board Philemon Machana, who was also accused of sending offensive messages to Chiyangwa.

Machana’s charges were dropped along the way leaving Kamambo to be summoned back in court alone. This is not the first time that Kamambo and Chiyangwa squared-off in court after the two clashed in a matter where the former is charged with bribery.

Chiyangwa testified as a State witness where he told the court that Kamambo had send money to ZIFA councillors to bribe them into voting him into power.

The matter is still pending.
