Chiyangwa hails Dube Philip Chiyangwa

Bulawayo Bureau
ZIFA president Philip Chiyangwa congratulated Highlanders’ boss Peter Dube for winning Premier Soccer League chairmanship elections in Harare on Saturday. Dube clinched 11 votes to beat Dynamos president Kenny Mubaiwa, who got four. Mubaiwa has now lost twice in his bid to take charge of the country’s elite football league. He was first beaten by the disposed former CAPS United president Twine Phiri in the 2014 elections after he got just three votes and was hoping for luck this time around.

Dube, a staunch Liverpool supporter, will lead the PSL until 2018. Soon after the announcement of the results on Saturday, Zifa supremo Chiyangwa sent his congratulatory message and said Dube’s landslide victory was good for continuity.

“I am happy (for Dube), continuity is good and the ability to dream big. We say congratulations to the Highlanders’ chairman for the win,” said Chiyangwa. With the win, Dube is now automatically a Zifa executive committee member.

Meanwhile, there was cheer and merrymaking at the Highlanders’ Clubhouse on Saturday afternoon when results trickled in that Dube was now the second most powerful man in Zimbabwean football.
