Chitungwiza mayor arrested

Chitungwiza mayor Councillor Phillip Mutoti (MDC-T) was last night arrested for allegedly assaulting a municipal employee in the town.
Police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Paul Nyathi confirmed that Clr Mutoti was facing assault charges for beating Mr Matthew Mateo Kamurai but said investigations were still underway to establish what transpi- red.
“We have recorded statements from Chitungwiza mayor Phillip Mutoti and he is assisting us with investigations,” he said.
“Unfortunately, I cannot provide details at this stage as I am still receiving information on events leading to the assault.
“We are still investigating the matter.”
Although Chief Supt Nyathi declined to provide more details, The Herald understands that Clr Mutoti allegedly hurled a brick at the worker who sustained injuries.
