A Chipinge man has appeared in court on murder charges after he allegedly fatally stabbed a carpenter before robbing him of his belongings.

Zakaria Sithole (31) of Chikwanda Village under Chief Mutema, Chipinge, was charged with murder when he appeared before Chipinge magistrate Mr Poterai Gwezhira on Tuesday.

He was remanded in custody and is expected back in court on July 2 for sentencing.
Allegations are that on May 17, at around 9pm, Sithole met Paradzai Mushoni on a footpath near Chipinge Junior School while he was on his way home.

Sithole grabbed Mushoni and stabbed him once on the back using a knife.
He then took Mushoni’s belongings, including two mobile phones, a bicycle chain, a wallet containing US$150 and a bag which had his carpentry tools.

Mushoni was discovered lying on the path by a police officer and was taken to Chipinge District Hospital where he was pronounced dead on admission.

Sithole was found in possession of Mushoni’s property, national identity card and bank cards by Mushoni’s workmate, leading to his arrest.
The knife used to stab Mushoni was also recovered in Sithole’s bedroom.
