Chinhoyi Municipality is owed about $37 million in bills by residents, Government and businesses, resulting in it struggling to provide sufficient service. The local authority’s spokesperson Mr Tichaona Mlauzi said council was owed $36,7 million. All debtors, he said, were supposed to come forward and make payment plans.

“We are calling upon all those who owe council to come forward and make payment plans, where they clear the current bills while at the same time reducing their debts,” he said.

Mr Mlauzi said council was not going to write off debts next year ahead of the elections, but instead it had come up with a promotion where stakeholders have to pay their current, bills while making a payment plan for the outstanding debt.

“We will not write off debts; we, therefore, encourage debtors to be responsible and play their part by paying their bills as we do our part of offering service,” said Mr Mlauzi.
