Chinhoyi Municipality is set to boost its monthly revenue inflows by $56 000 after it completes installing 3 000 water meters around the town.

Council, using its own resources, has so far installed 200 convectional meters, while the remainder will be installed in Rujeko and St Ives suburbs by the end of next month.

The projected $56 000 will likely augment the local authority’s cash flows.

Chinhoyi generates an estimated $340 000 monthly, which is less than its wage bill, which presently stands at $380 000.

In an interview recently, Chinhoyi Municipality spokesperson Mr Tichaona Mlauzi said the project was going on smoothly.

“Council is installing 3 000 convectional meters, 2 700 in the remaining part of Rujeko suburb and 300 in St Ives area at a combined cost of $273 000 from council coffers,” he said.

“So far, 200 have been installed and we expect to complete installing all properties targeted by end of March 2018.”

Mr Mlauzi said after completion, council was expecting to realise potential revenue of $56 100 per month from billing the properties.

Over the past few years, Chinhoyi has been mulling plans to introduce prepaid water meters.

A pilot project that was supposed to start in Orange Groove suburb fell through last year.
