China has donated half a million dollars cash towards the Tokwe-Mukosi disaster as bilateral relations between the Asian country and Zimbabwe continue to grow.
The announcement was made by visiting member of the Foreign Policy Advisory Group (Ministry of Foreign Affiars) Mr Ji Peiding after meeting Vice President Joice Mujuru at her Munhumutapa offices in Harare yesterday. Speaking after the meeting, Mr Ji called for the strengthening of economic ties between Zimbabwe and China.

“Recently Zimbabwe had floods somewhere and our ambassador here Mr Lin Lin today conveyed the donation from the Chinese of US$500 000 in cash to the disaster,” he said.

“We are looking towards strengthening the economic relations between the countries and to invest in this beautiful country.”

Government is relocating the affected families from Tokwe-Mukosi to Chingwizi holding camp.

Mr Ji said he had “an interesting” discussion with VP Mujuru.

He said it was pleasing to note that there was political stability in Zimbabwe and the country was now concentrating on economic development.

“I had great honour to have an interesting discussion with the Vice President. I told the deputy president that it is a home-coming visit.

“I worked in Zimbabwe for five years during the 1980s at the embassy. I am very happy to see that Zimbabwe now enjoys political stability and is ready for the next economic takeoff.”

Mr Ji said China would continue supporting Zimbabwe.

“We also discussed about bilateral relations between the two countries and China is promising to assist further because we are good brothers and sisters.”

In response, VP Mujuru said the people in Chingwizi needed aid especially food and clothing.

“Take our message to the President His Excellency Xi Jinping that we are very grateful to the gesture.

“S)We are still receiving some rains and we hope to extend more feeds to the people of Chingwizi,” she said.
