Chief Wedza installed Minister Ncube

CHIEF Wedza of Ture area in Zvishavane has been installed nearly four years after the passing on of his predecessor.

The Minister of State for Midlands Provincial Affairs Cde Owen Ncube presided over the installation ceremony of Chief Wedza, whose real name is Mr Kenias Mnyamani Moyo.

Mr Moyo of the Mdonga family succeeds Mr Phillip Hlati Tambudzuku of Zibanayi family, who died on October 11, 2014. Cde Ncube urged the new Chief Wedza to ensure that the culture and heritage of Zimbabwe is preserved through the institution of traditional leadership.

“It is imperative for your chieftainship to ensure that there is an outright preservation of the extended family and the promotion of the traditional family life regardless of these modern Western tendencies and technological advancements taking centre stage of late.

“Let the people understand that the unhu /ubuntu principles will continue guiding the Zimbabwean people and our culture and heritage remain our reserve of the true identity of the people of Zimbabwe, therefore, we should work hard in guarding it from possible dilutions and distortions,” he said.

Cde Ncube said it was Government’s ambition to promote national culture and heritage regardless of the media and cultural imperialism brought about by technological advancements of today. “It is Government’s ambition to promote the restoration of the national culture and heritage and it is through the institution of traditional leadership that this goal is achieved,” he said.

Cde Ncube said Chief Wedza had been tasked with the responsibility of making sure that his subjects enjoy their basic rights to shelter, food and education as enshrined in the Constitution of the country.

“It will be your responsibility to ensure orphans within your jurisdiction are enrolled in schools and registered under the Basic Education Assistance Module (BEAM) as well as receive food through all interventions. To address food insecurities in your area, I would like to urge you to resuscitate the Zunde RaMambo initiative to cushion food security in your area to augment the efforts made by Government to alleviate hunger.”

“Through your office, we implore adherence to the fundamental rights enshrined in the supreme law of the land which will enable the country to reach positive indicators on the Human Development Index,” he said.

Born on April 1, 1949 Chief Wedza was selected according to the Wedza-Masukume succession customs and appointed by President Mnangagwa as Chief in terms of the Traditional Leaders Act.
