Zimbabwe Electoral Commission chief elections officer Mr Lovemore Chipunza Sekeramayi has died. He was 67. Mr Sekeramayi died in Lesotho yesterday where he had gone to attend a meeting of chief elections officers for electoral management bodies in the sadc region. The cause of the death had not been ascertained by the time of going to press last night.

Born on May 1947, Mr Sekeramayi was the chief elections officer for Zec from 2007 until the time of his death. Zec chairperson Justice Rita Makarau, said in a statement yesterday that funeral arrangements would be announced in due course. “Commissioners and staff would like to express their heartfelt condolences to Mrs Easther Sekeramayi and the entire Sekeramayi family on the passing on of Mr Lovemore Chipunza Sekeramayi,” she said.

“Mourners are gathered at house number 31 Hindhead Avenue, Chisipite, Harare. May his soul rest in peace.”
Mr Sekeramayi was a seasoned former civil servant in Zimbabwe.

A graduate of Social Sciences in UK, he was one of the first few senior civil servants in the newly independent Zimbabwe. He joined the civil service in 1982.
Mr Sekeramayi worked as district administrator (Makonde), provincial administrator (Mashonaland Central), Deputy Registrar General (Administration and Finance) and Deputy Secretary in the Office of the President and Cabinet.
