Blessings Chidakwa in Kadoma
Mining chemicals and explosives company Major Chemicals and Explosives that was commissioned in Kadoma last week has so far employed 50 people and is planning to employ more soon.

The company said that an additional 50 workers would be recruited before the end of the second quarter of 2019.

Addressing delegates at the commissioning last week, Mashonaland West Provincial Minister Mary Mliswa-Chikoka said the company would make a significant impact in Zimbabwe’s mining industry.

“This is a first-of-its kind event in the province and is a major score for all of us in this Second Republic. The firm identified a niche market in the mining industry.

“This is set to trigger a massive turn around in the operations of our hard working artisanal miners. The owners have since invested about US$100 000 in setting up this enterprise,” she said.

Minister Mliswa-Chikoka said while others were seeing gloom, founder Mr Major Meja and his team were actually seeing that indeed Zimbabwe is Open for Business.

“As we court international investors, it is also important to open up opportunities for our locals, who together with the foreign investors, will make us achieve Vision 2030. Zimbabweans must appreciate we have a shared responsibility of turning our economy around and as evidenced today, entrepreneurship is the way to go,” she said.

Major Chemicals and Explosives company secretary Mr Tamburai Zezere, who represented Mr Meja, said breaking into that kind of industry was not easy.

“The Major Chemicals team sat down to investigate how the company could make an impact in the community and create the much needed jobs as His Excellency President Mnangagwa is always emphasising.

“I am pleased to let you know that the company has already created 50 jobs and is on course to creating another 50 in the second half of this year once our operations have expanded,” he said.

Mr Zezere said the company identified a niche in the explosives and chemical industry for mining and over the years have been fine-tuning their product offering to capture the market.

“Our technical (team) and other partners, including our suppliers, have thus far helped us to create a value proposition that will make us a force to reckon within the market,” she said.

Government has been working with various investors local and international to create jobs across Zimbabwe in a bid to transform the country into an upper middle-income society by 2030.
