Chegutu Municipality dragged to court

WORKERS at Chegutu Municipality have dragged their employer to the Labour Court over an alleged six-month salary backlog.

The cash-strapped council had reportedly offered residential stands to offset the salaries backlog.

The proposal hit a brick wall, infuriating the workers who decided to settle for the courts. In an interview recently, Chegutu mayor Councillor Henry Muchatibaya confirmed the lawsuit, saying the local authority was surprised by the workers’ decision as they expected dialogue.

“We owe our employees six month salaries, but as from last year we are paying them their monthly salaries,” he said.
