United States-based Zimbabwean gospel singer Caroline Makamache has launched a charity organisation aimed at empowering women in various sectors.

Makamache said her new-born charity organisation was an extension of the work she was already doing at a small scale.

“My inspiration to start the foundation is a personal story because I was experiencing the struggles of a single mother.

The mandate was to start something that will help women create sustainable livelihoods,” Makamache said.

The organisation`s primary focus will be on the plight of women.

Makamache said; “Our vision is, if you are a woman and you are struggling.

We are throwing a lifeline to you, to find ways we can help you to create something more sustainable be it market linkages, business ideas or any sort of help appropriate to the situation at hand.”

Makamuche said she will not be competing with the many charities in existence but instead, looks forward to working with them.

Harare Metropolitan Province Minister of State Miriam Chikukwa lauded Makamuche for her project, encouraging her to be resolute in her journey to empower women.

In a speech read on her behalf at the launch, Minister Chikukwa said a lot of women are set to benefit from the charity organisation.

“Rutendo Hope foundation is an organisation which was established to help women to utilise their skills to capacitate themselves,” said Chikukwa.

She added; “It encourages entrepreneurship among women including divorced women and widows, this is done to give a lifeline to this section of our society that was marginalised in order to ensure that they take their rightful place in the mainstream of our country`s economy.

“It is therefore incumbent upon us ladies to stand up and be counted as active participants in this investment climate and Rutendo Hope Foundation gives us a good platform to do this.”

Rutendo Hope Foundation will be operational in Zimbabwe and the United States of America with sights on becoming a globally renowned organisation.
