CARA Black of Zimbabwe and her Indian partner Sania Mirza are through to the second round of the women’s doubles at the French Open tennis tournament at Roland Garros in Paris. According to reports from Paris, the fifth-seeded pair of Black (35) and Mirza (27) cruised into round two of the second Grand Slam of the year after posting a straightforward 6-3, 6-3 victory over the unseeded duo of Daniela Hantuchova of Slovakia and Israel’s Shahar Peer in the first round yesterday. It took Black and Mirza just over an hour to dispatch their opponents on Court 11 at Roland Garros as they got off to a flying start at this red claycourt tournament where they are seeking their second title on the road together after their recent success at the Japan Open in Tokyo. In Tokyo, Black and Mirza were playing their third final of the season, having finished runner-up at Indian Wells in the United States and Stuttgart, Germany, earlier this year.

The duo has won three titles from five finals since they combined forces towards the end of last season. And Black and Mirza arrived at this year’s French Open oozing with confidence after having won the doubles title at the Japan Open and yesterday they sent a clear message that they will be one of the teams to beat in Paris after outplaying Hantuchova and Peer in their first round match..
