CAPS United fans will have a glimpse of their team’s pedigree this season when the Green Machine takes on Harare City in the Zimbabwe National Army Charities Shield quarter-final tie at Rufaro on Sunday.

Coach Lloyd Chitembwe said the match against a team that booked its place in the CAF Confederation Cup first round was a very important one for them.

“Obviously, Harare City are doing very well considering their results in the Confederation Cup. They have good players and I just hope it will be a good game of football,” said Chitembwe.

“It is one team which likes to play the ball and I think we also like to play and, for spectators, I am sure it will be a good game. “We play to win all games and this is one thing we are trying to tell our players so that winning becomes second nature to them.

“I think, just like them, we are all still in pre-season despite them playing two CAF matches.” The former CAPS United captain said the tour to Mozambique, in which the team won two matches, lost one and drew one, afforded the team the chance to work on combinations.

“We had more time to work on things we needed to work on,” said Chitembwe.

“I am very happy to say that what we achieved out of the tour is more than I could have imagined and if we hadn’t got this chance it would have been difficult for us to achieve what we achieved.”

CAPS United have assembled a squad that has Archford Gutu, Abbas Amidu, Allen Gahadzikwa, Cabby Kamhapa, Dennis Dauda and Devon Chafa to mention but a few.

“I am sure we have a very good group of players. All players are here on merit and one good thing is that they understand that they carry a huge responsibility,” said Chitembwe.

“So, whoever is given the platform to represent the club, I am sure he will do precisely that, knowing that he carries a responsibility so it is not really about who will play. “At the end of the day it is about coming up with a team that will give us a balance that we want. In as much as we have some experienced players, there is also need for us to fuse them with the younger ones, the younger ones will provide the energy we need.”

Meanwhile, Dynamos coach Paulo Jorge Silva was barred from entering Malawi yesterday because he did not have a visa to enter the country.

The Glamour Boys party, which was travelling to Blantyre for a series of friendlies, were delayed at the Malawian border because the Portuguese player and his compatriot, a player at the club, did not visas.
