CAPS Utd keen to see off Highlanders

CAPS UNITED are flying, but captain Godknows Murwira knows current form alone cannot be enough carry them over the line when they face Highlanders in the league at Rufaro tomorrow.
The Green Machine are enjoying their game after winning three of their last four matches, while drawing only once. They last tasted defeat on July 27 when suffering a 2-1 upset at the hands of minnows Arenel Movers at Luveve.
But they have since picked themselves up recording three consecutive 1-0 victories over FC Platinum, ZPC Kariba and Manica Diamonds before playing out a 2-2 draw at GreenFuel.
They have climbed to the top half of the Premiership ladder with 34 points, just five behind Highlanders who lost 2-1 to Herentals in their last league game before the international break.
And Murwira, who played both Warriors’ games against Kenya and Cameroon, while Bosso’s Andrew Mbeba was benched in both matches, said Highlanders cannot be judged by how they have performed in their recent games.
“Highlanders remain a big team and that is the reason why they are up there on the log standings. There might be a significant gap between them and those who are leading the race, but they are still in with a chance.
“That is because they are Highlanders and they can get results anywhere and anytime,” said Murwira.
“As CAPS United, we have been enjoying some purple patches of late and we are very happy and focused at the same time. We have been patiently doing our business, picking up wins with calculated performances and the means have also been anchored on our experience as a unit. That is the same path we want to continue walking as a team. The most important thing that we have at CAPS United at the moment is unity of purpose. We are fighting for each other and the spirit has been awesome and we have been seeing the rewards.
“That is the momentum we should carry into the match against Highlanders. We have prepared well and are ready to go out there and showcase ourselves, win the match and pocket the maximum points.
“That is the mentality we have as a team and we are eager to make our fans happy and even reduce the gap between us and Highlanders significantly.”
Makepekepe lost the reverse tie 2-0 at Barbourfields early in the season when they were having a dry phase.
But they have been hitting hard at Rufaro Stadium where the turf seems to be extracting the best out of the Green Machine lot.
Elsewhere, Manica Dimaonds who finally remembered how to win a league match when edging Arenel Movers 2-1 in midweek will be at Mandava to try and throw spanners in FC Platinum’s title dream this afternoon.
